COMMITMENT

multi-coloured dots representing microfibres

Our collective framework:

The Microfibre 2030 Commitment forms a common ambition shared with our community of signatories, to work towards zero impact from fibre fragmentation from textiles to the natural environment by 2030. Signatories to the commitment embed fibre fragmentation into their sustainability agenda and become publicly accountable for addressing fibre fragmentation.

A commitment to testing materials and sharing results:

Part of the Microfibre 2030 Commitment is to test material portfolios and share results with TMC for data analysis. This work is designed to close the knowledge gaps, identify the root causes of fibre fragmentation and contribute to the development of practical solutions for product design and manufacturing, in order to actively mitigate.

Making this commitment shows that organisations around the world are serious about taking action. By putting themselves in a position to influence progress, they will prove to be the industry forerunners in the adoption of innovative solutions to fibre fragmentation.

Led by science, TMC seek to understand the drivers of fibre fragmentation through fabric testing.

This supports the development of practical solutions to address the problem at its source - the textile itself.

Within design and development, we can embed textile learnings across all process steps in the value chain to minimise fibre shedding from materials.

Within manufacturing, we can align guidance across the sector to ensure clear and measurable action on managing fibre loss in production.

There is a role for everyone. Active, industry-wide engagement is needed to address this multi-faceted challenge. We encourage collaboration and learning across the breadth of textile sectors, with increasing signatory representation from:

brands, retailers, manufacturers, research institutions, mutli-stakeholder initiatives, industry associations, fabric testing laboratories
